چکیده

As one of the most important soil components, kaolinite plays an important role in transport and fixation of organic pollutants in soils. P-Aminoazobenzene (PAAB) is a sort of the carcinogenic aromatic amine which is commonly used as the intermediates of azo dyes. It can cause mutations and cancer of aquatic biota as well as humans. In this study, adsorption of PAAB on kaolinite in aqueous solution under different pHs, temperature and ionic strength was examined. Adsorption kinetic experiments indicated that the adsorption of PAAB on kaolinite at pH 1.4 and 4.0 followed the Elovich kinetics. The adsorption isotherm of PAAB onto kaolinite was well described by the Langmuir model, with an adsorption capacity of 2.2 mg/g at pH 1.4 and 1.43mg/g at pH 4.0. Adsorption of PAAB increased with decreasing solution pH and ionic strength. The negative free energy change ( G) after adsorption indicated that the adsorption process is a spontaneous process. The enthalpy change ( H) at pH 1.4 and 4.0 was -6.93 and -4.72 kJ/mol, respectively, suggesting that PAAB adsorption was an exothermal process and the physical adsorption predominated in the adsorption of PAAB on kaolinite. The adsorption affinity of PAAB for kaolinite surface was attributed to the electrostatic attractive and van der

Adsorption characterizations of fulvic acid fractions onto kaolinite.

Fulvic acids extracted from a typical rice-production region near Taihu Lake of China were fractionated into three fractions including F4.8, F7.0 and F11.0 (eluted by pH 4.8 buffer, pH 7.0 buffer and pH 11.0 buffer, respectively). Sorption of fulvic acid (FA) fractions onto kaolinite was studied by batch adsorption experiments, and characterizations of kaolinite before and after adsorption were...

Effects of bloom-forming cyanobacterial extracellular polymeric substances on the adsorption of cadmium onto kaolinite: behaviors and possible mechanisms

Cyanobacterial blooms result in high level of cyanobacterial extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) in water. The effects of bloom-forming cyanobacterial EPS on the distribution of Cd(II) in the interface between sediment and water is unknown. Clay is a main component in sediment. The effects of EPS, originated from a typical bloom-forming cyanobacterium Microcystis aeruginosa, on the adsorpt...

Isotherm and Kinetic Studies on Adsorption of Pb, Zn and Cu by Kaolinite

The feasibility of kaolinite used as a low-cost adsorbent for the removal of Pb(II), Zn(II) and Cu(II) from aqueous solutions was investigated. During the removal process, batch technique was used, and the effects of heavy metal concentration and contact time on adsorption efficiency at pH of 4.5, under a constant temperature of 20?1 ?C were studied. The experimental results were analyzed using...

A study of competitive adsorption of organic molecules onto mineral oxides using DRIFTS.

Analysis of DRIFTS spectra was used for a quantitative study of competitive adsorption of myristic and salicylic acids onto kaolinite or gamma-alumina. Peaks unique to the ring or the chain were selected and single molecule studies used as calibration. Samples were exposed to hexane solution containing equal molecular quantities of each acid. The surface loading of salicylic acid was not influe...

Adsorption Characteristics of Bixin on Acid- and Alkali-Treated Kaolinite in Aprotic Solvents

The adsorption of bixin in aprotic solvents onto acid- and alkali-treated kaolinite was investigated. Kaolinite was treated three times, for 6 h each, with 8 M HCl or 5 M KOH. The adsorbents were characterized by XRD, FT-IR, EDS, and BET-N2. The effects of contact time and dye concentration on adsorption capacity and kinetics, electronic transition of bixin before and after adsorption, and also...
